Bangladesh Cricket Board

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) previously known as the Bangladesh Cricket Control Board (BCCB), is the main governing body of cricket in Bangladesh, responsible for the operation and development of cricket, maintenance of venues, and selection for the national team. Its foundation was laid was in 1972 and on 26 July 1977, Bangladesh became an Associate Member of the ICC later became a full member of the International Cricket Council on 26 June 2000. The Board has its headquarters in Dhaka. Nazmul Hasan Papon is the incumbent president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board while Professor Mohammad Yousuf Ali was the first president of this body from 1972 till 14 August 1976.

Bangladesh Played their first One-day international match against Pakistan in 1986. In June 2000 became the 10th nation to be awarded the status of “TEST Playing nation” however played their first test match five months later in November against India (losing it by 9 wickets). Their entry to the shortest format of the game was witnessed in 2006 against Zimbabwe which they won quite comprehensively by 63 runs.

Bangla Cricket Contribution to the World Cricket

Since their induction into world cricket, the Bangla cricket has continued to flourish over time as Bangladesh’s first participation in the World Cup came in 1999, after their prolific run in the ICC trophy of 1997. Their first outing at the major tournament was a great success as they shocked Pakistan in its last group match before making a creditable exit. And since then, they have stunned the world with their heroics on multiple occasions. In the 2007 World Cup campaign they denied the entry of then favourites India to the next round by knocking them out of the tournament. Similarly, in 2015, they brought an early exit to the England World cup journey. The Bengal tigers claimed a memorable scalp during the first ICC World Twenty20 when it beat West Indies to reach the Super Eights. Bangladesh has also reached the finals of three Asia Cup tournaments and were semifinalists in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017. The Bangla Cricket has evolved especially from 2013 onwards there have been encouraging signs that it has started to grasp the tune of the longer format of the gentlemen’s game cricket with victories coming against established powers like England, Australia and Sri Lanka.  Bangladesh has become a model for grassroots cricket development with its age group and youth teams showing great promise in competitive cricket. The biggest evidence of its potential came in early 2020 when the Bangladesh Under-19 Team lifted the ICC Under-19 World Cup Trophy in South Africa.  Moreover, Bangladesh Cricket does possess the honour of joint hosting the 2011 ODI World Cup and further strengthen its mark on the history of the game when the 2014 T20 Worldcup was staged in the country.

The World T20 is just around the corner and Bangladesh has already announced their squad for their upcoming venture in UAE. Muhammadullah will lead the decent looking side with a mix of experienced campaigners and promising young stars eyeing glory. Alongside the captain, established members Soumya Sarkar, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim will look to play a crucial part in team success as seamer Mustafizur Rahman aims to put together another impressive ICC tournament. Although they are ranked 6th on ICC t20 ranking table but still their World cup campaign will commence early on 17 October against Scotland to cement their place into the final Groups of the competition.

Undermining a team like Bangladesh is a horrendous mistake that teams can afford to make given their history of lifting the standard of their game when it requires the most. Their strength lies in the unconditional support they receive from their fans which encourages them to push their limits and produce extraordinary results. UAE pitches will offer a great amount of assistance to Bengal tigers as they somehow resemble their home ground conditions and their record at home is phenomenal. Backing on their recent T20I series triumph against New Zealand, the side’s confidence going forward into the tournament will be sky high.

Bangladesh Cricket Amid World T20: Three Top contenders of the World Cup

India: One team which has indubitably looked to threaten and take every trophy away in recent times is India. India are the host nation this year and had COVID not deteriorated the health conditions The most prestigious cup would have been staged there

Other teams will feel extremely lucky to have the competition shifted to a neutral venue otherwise the kind of performances the Indian team has showcased on their home soil it seems a pipe dream to beat them in their backyard

Indian team has developed themselves into a contingent of supermen who can perform and adapt to every condition anywhere in the world moreover they have several players lined up in case any first-choice player picks up an injury. Kohli’s announcement to relinquish captaincy after this year’s world cup will push his side to come together in bidding farewell to their captain on a high note.

West Indies: the two-time champions of T20 Worldcup Carrebian side still seems to be in similar touch where they signed off last time in 2016. A long list of powerful hitters who can turn the game upside down in a blink of any eye and skilful bowlers to defend any target makes them a strong candidate to defend their title. For them “age is just a number and venue is just a ground”. Their ability and vast experience considering t20 games is second to none

Pakistan: A cricket Pundit never writes off the “men in green”. UAE has been the home of Pakistani cricket for a decade now and they are well aware of the home conditions and will certainly profit from the experience of playing on these pitches. Moreover, they remained NO 1 rank in t20 for the period in past three years winning 11 T20I series on the trot mostly being played in UAE.

Bangladesh will face relatively easier opponents in the Group stages with matches being scheduled against Scotland, Oman and Papua New Guinea respectively before they make their way into the final 12 teams of the competition. Hopefully, they’ll qualify for the Group 2 of the tournament with India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Afghanistan who can challenge their entry to the knockout round
